African Riots

African Riots© 2001, Rene and Yvonne Linka.Image

African Riots is a nine-player Diplomacy variant.
The Map is based on the national borders in the beginning of the 21th century. The division in territories as well as the division of water-spaces is mainly edited regarding the playability but nevertheless often shows realistic regions. This variant doesn't represent a realistic scenario concerning the involved parties but rather tries to consider the natural occurrence of resources in Africa.

This is an "Aberration"-variant of Africa which means: "a player may build on any supply center he owns which is vacant as long as he still owns at least one of his original home centers." This is a tribute to the really large map and the long distant lines of communication.
There are some special geographical characteristics in this variant e.g. some navigable rivers
.

Here you find a list of all geographical characteristics in African Riots and the original info-text.

Battleisle

ImageBattleisle is a synthetic variant for 6 players. Synthetic means that the map was drawn without existing landscapes and/or countries in mind.

You'll find further informations about this variant and a description of it's specialties in the original info-text.

However, here's the download-link of the variant-files for "Realpolitik".

Deutsches Reich 1871

Deutsches Reich 1871 © 2002, Ingolf Emmert. Image

Deutsches Reich 1871 is a six-player Diplomacy variant.

The map of DR1871 shows the borders of the "Deutsche Reich" (green area) and its direct neighbours (bright beige area) in 1871. The division in territories is based on the borders of the different "national" kingdoms,
dukedoms and principalities. The adjacent countries are neutral thus there are no supply centers to conquer but they give units the permission to cross their countries. For a better playability some kingdoms and dukedoms are subdivided into further provinces.

Because there are no water-areas in this variant, a special unit was added instead of fleets. This cavalry-unit has a two-field movement, thus it can´t reach the adjacent countries of a territory.

Middle American Chaos - MAC

MAC © 2002, Rene Linka und Yvonne Linka.

ImageMiddle American Chaos is an five-player Diplomacy variant. The Map is based on the national borders in the beginning of the 21th century. As in Africa the division in territories as well as the division of water-spaces is mainly edited regarding the playability but nevertheless often shows realistic regions. This variant doesn't represent a realistic scenario concerning the involved parties.

This is an "Chaos"-variant of Middle America which means: "a player may build on any supply center that he owns that is vacant."

The first action of the game is to build units. So the players are able to choose the type of their start-units.

Oceania

Oceania© 2003, Frank BacherImage

Oceania is a seven player Diplomacy variant.
Not suprisingly, Oceania consists of lots of island chains. These chains have some special characteristics. Basically two different types of island chains exist: Chains with only one space (e.g.Pitcairn Islands (pit) and so called multispaced island chains (e.g.Solomon Islands (nsi/ssi). The most important feature is that armies can move _directly_ from one island chain to another ("island hopping") as long as both chains (independent of being multispaced or singlespaced) border the same sea province. This feature is restricted to armies.

The reasoning behind these rules is that in our time movement from one island chain to another is easily possible by air, be it helicopters or water planes or whatever. Consequently fleets can't be transported by air and have to move between Island chains at "a slower pace".

Here you find the original info-text of this variant and the download of the Realpolitik variant-files.

This variant was playtested a few times. Here are the Realpolitik-files: Oceania I, Oceania II, Oceania III
